Please follow the links given below for formatting your thesis and converting it to a PDF document. The Graduate School at the University of Cincinnati
mandates your final ETD to be submitted as a PDF document.
Please make sure that your committee information is correctly listed at Verify Committee website. If not, please contact your Program Coordinator
to get the information updated in the system before proceeding further to the following steps.
Please follow this link to provide details to generate a CAF electronically. This will generate the CAF as a pdf file. Print one copy of it and get it signed by your committee members.
Scan this signed copy of CAF and save it for use in step 5.
Print and fill out the Embargo Form and get it signed by your advisor ONLY IF you wish to have an Embargo. Scan the signed Embargo Form and save it for use in step 5. However, if you do not want an Embargo, please ignore this step and proceed.
In addition to getting your committee approval form signed by the
committee members, your committee chair should
electronically approve your final thesis document. For this purpose you are required to upload your thesis to the ETD Online website. Please follow the steps below in order to do so.
Step 5.1: Log in to the University of Cincinnati ETD Online website using your CLS login and password. |

Step 5.2: When you successfully finish Step 3, it automatically creates a new ETD submission application for you. You should be able to see this application under the Saved ETD Submission(s) link. If such a saved submission exists for you, select it. However, if you do not have any saved ETD submission application, you can click on the New ETD Submission link to begin a new submission application. |

Step 5.3: Please fill in all information pertaining to the following categories: |
Author: This category requires you to fill in your contact details. Please make sure that the email address provided in the contact is kept active at all times.
Degree: This category requires you to fill in information regarding the degree for which you are applying for your graduation and some information about your defense. Along with this, you are also required to upload the scanned copy of your Committee Approval Form as created in Step 3.
Thesis/Dissertation: This category requires you to upload your formatted pdf copy of thesis as created in Step 1. Further, you need to provide separately your thesis title and abstract. Please pay special attention to the formatting of the title and abstract if they contain some special characters.
Embargo: This category allows you to fill in your embargo (publication delay) options. If you do want an embargo, you need to upload a signed Embargo Form as completed in Step 4.
Committee Approval Form: Along with the CAF generated in Step 3, you are required to generate a CAF with printed names of your committee members instead of signatures for inclusion in your final ETD. To generate a CAF, click on the Generate Committee Approval Form button. This will generate a CAF for you in pdf format. Please make sure that all the information on this generated form is correct. If you find that some information on this form is incorrect please check the information you provided in the Author, Degree and Thesis/Dissertation categories above.
Once, you are sure that all the information on the generated CAF is correct, click on the Merge Committee Approval Form into PDF button. This will insert the CAF as the first page of your uploaded ETD.

Step 5.4: After all information is filled in the above five categories correctly, click on the Submit to Chair button in the Embargo option. This will send out an email to your committee chair sending all the information which you completed for his approval.

You will be notified by email
whether your ETD submission is approved or needs modifications
after your committee chair has reviewed it.
You can log in at the ETD Online website to check the status of your submission.
If your submission status indicates
Please contact Chair,
then contact your committee chair for any corrections to
the submission. You can make corrections to your ETD submission by selecting it from the Completed ETD Submission(s) section. You will continue making modifications to
the online submission until the committee chair
approves your submission.
After all corrections are complete and the status of the
submission indicates Approved, you
must log into the ETD Online website again to select your submission and finalize it. You are also required to fill
in additional information for OhioLink and Proquest UMI in the Permissions and Agreement categories. If you do not want to publish your thesis at Proquest UMI, select the option Do not upload my paper to UMI for publishing. However, if you want to publish your thesis at UMI, select
the other option Upload my thesis to UMI, selecting either the traditional or open access publishing option. Upon choosing to upload your thesis at UMI, an account will be created for you at the UMI website and you will be informed via email about your login details. After this, follow the instructions given in Step 9 to finish publishing at the UMI website.
After completing the above information, an email notification will be sent informing the Graduate School staff that you
have completed your ETD submission.
Note: Thesis students are not required to publish, but they are required to provide details for uploading their thesis to Ohio Link.
Once the Graduate School Staff is finished reviewing your ETD Submission, you will receive an email notification. After this, if you are publishing, please proceed to Step 9. Otherwise, you are done with your ETD submission process.
If you are publishing,
you must follow the steps below to publish your Thesis at the UMI website.
Note: It is not mandatory for Thesis students to publish.

Step 9.2: Your login id is your ucid M-number and password is the confirmation number provided in the confirmation email from the Graduate School as described in Step 7. |
Step 9.3: Verify all information displayed on the screen is correct. Any inconsistencies should be reported to the Graduate School immediately. |
Step 9.4: You may order copies or request a copyright. This is optional but will incur additional fees at your expense. |
Step 9.5: Complete the payment information using a credit card and click submit when you are finished. |
