Preparing for Thesis and Dissertation Submission at UC

Roles and Responsibilities

At the University of Cincinnati, graduate students in designated programs are required to submit a master's thesis prior to graduation. Doctoral candidates are required to submit a thesis and complete a dissertation.

The ETD helpdesk serves to assist students in creating ETDs. However, it remains the primary responsibility of the student to create, edit, and prepare their thesis. The ETD helpdesk can only assist students who encounter difficulty in the process of converting documents to PDF or those who have questions about the submission process.

Guidelines and Procedures

Graduation Process - can be used to help you ensure you are following all the steps in submission of your thesis/dissertation, and application for graduation.

ETD Formatting and other Instructions - guidelines for preparing your thesis or dissertation at UC, from formatting your document to submission.

Submission to OhioLINK - When you are ready to submit your thesis to OhioLINK, go to http://www.ohioLINK.edu/etd. Detailed instructions for this process are available at http://www.etd.uc.edu/submission.aspx

Application for Graduation Deadlines - dictate when your thesis or dissertation must be submitted to the Graduate School and when you must apply to graduate.

Online Application for Graduation - used to apply to for graduation. Submission of your thesis should coincide with the quarter you wish to graduate.

Graduation Guidelines and Procedures - are comprehensive documents describing the process of preparing and submitting your thesis, as well as applying for graduation.


Computer Resources Available to You

Student Technology Resources Center (STRC) - Langsam Library - The main UC library, Langsam Library, provides a computer lab with required software to create your ETD. Some assistance may be available from lab staff. The STRC is located on the fourth floor of Langsam Library. Their phone number is 556-1980.

UCit-Maintained Computer Labs - are available in numerous locations around campus. Be sure to check their website for the hours of operation, which vary by lab.

ETD Helpdesk - A helpdesk is staffed by the Graduate School to assist students in working through difficulties in the process of creating their ETDs. Phone calls are welcome and in-person assistance is available by appointment. Call 556-1496.
